Trenchless sewer repair in Sacramento
A failing sewer line under a Sacramento home can be rebuilt from the inside, or replaced through two small pits, usually in a day. Here is how pipe lining and pipe bursting work, when each is the right call, and what to expect from a camera inspection before anyone quotes a repair.
Sewer Pipe Lining (CIPP)
A resin-saturated liner cured in place forms a new, jointless pipe inside the old one.

Pipe Bursting
A bursting head splits the old pipe while pulling new HDPE pipe in behind it, through two small pits.

Two ways to fix a sewer line in Sacramento without a trench
Cured-in-place pipe lining pulls or inverts a resin-saturated liner into the cleaned host pipe and cures it into a new, jointless pipe inside the old one. It works from an existing cleanout, takes about a day, and is the answer for cracked, root-intruded or corroded lines that still hold their shape.
Pipe bursting pulls a bursting head through the old pipe from a pit at each end, splitting it outward while new HDPE pipe follows behind. It is the answer for collapsed, bellied or undersized lines that cannot be lined.
Which one a Sacramento line needs is decided by a camera inspection, not by a sales pitch. A contractor who quotes a method before running the camera is guessing with your money.

What fails under Sacramento County homes
California's postwar tracts were plumbed with vitrified clay laterals laid in short sections, and the houses on them sit on slabs with cast iron drain lines underneath. Sixty-plus years on, the clay joints have opened enough for roots to enter and the under-slab cast iron has channeled along its bottom. Homes from the 1980s onward use ABS, which holds up better but can be crushed or bellied where the soil moved.
Expansive clay soils inland, sandy fill near the coast, seismic settling, and long dry seasons followed by heavy rain all move pipe joints. Near the ocean a shallow, salty water table corrodes cast iron from the outside as well as the inside, and turns any open trench into a dewatering job.
